2015 Saturn Aura Repair Manual
I have a strange problem with my 2007 Aura XE 3.5 - it is emissions related. Everything looks good, but the car makes 16.7 miles per gallon measured. I checked everything I could - my mechanic found a problem with the air flow sensor and we replaced it, then I also had the O2 sensors replaced, because my car has 100k miles on it so I decided to do it.

I inspected it at a smog station and everything passed. The car passes smog check (It is CA car) No codes, no service engine light, everything looks good. But no gas mileage improvement and I know it was better, because I bought it new. I remember it made up to 31 MPG on freeway at 65 constant. It is no longer like that. If I get 20 MPG - I am happy.

It is also king of sluggish, especially at higher speeds. It wasn't like that. The problem is that the car is more economical when the ECU is reset. All it takes is to disconnect the battery for a moment and the car makes 20 per gallon or more.
It is difficult to measure exactly because that effect goes away in like 100 miles or so and I can't just take it on a freeway ride just to verify. But the ECO shows 25 MPG for up to 50 miles.
After 100 miles I have to disconnect the battery again to continue to get good mileage. Another funny thing is that when it is cold - it actually is more economical by approximately 0.8 miles per gallon. So in 75F to 80F weather it makes 16.7 and in sub 55F it makes 17.5 per gallon measured on the same work to home driving trip.
The ECO shows 1.6 miles per gallon more on the odometer display. So when hot - the ECO shows 18.2 and when cold the ECO shows 19. This is too weird for my mechanic. I took it to dealership and they said that it needs 'throttle cleaning.' After that there is absolutely no difference.
The car has everything new, filters oil, spark plugs, cables, air flow meter, O2 sensors and it works perfect otherwise. Motor is quiet.
I suspect there may be something wrong with the computer or maybe the knock sensor - but wanted to read the service manual. I am kind of done talking with stupid people out there - talking me into things that make no sense. This car was at the mechanic over 5 times already and they simply don't believe me what I am saying. These people say it is normal and I am starting to lose it. I know how my car was running before and I would like to find a mechanic who can help instead of questioning what is happening.
